Despedidas y Bienvenidas
Goodbyes and Welcomes
Goodbyes and Welcomes
We ended the week with some rather bittersweet goodbyes, especially to the children we ministered to at VBS in Ocho de Mayo!
Then it was a bus ride north, traipsing the tarmac in San Pedro Sula, and flying into Texas before our drive home this morning.
Thank you all for your prayers! May Christ Jesus be believed in, followed after, and praised!!
As each one has received a gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God— whoever speaks, as one speaking the oracles of God; whoever serves, as one serving by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and might forever and ever. Amen. — 1 Peter 4:10–11

Mercy Ministry
One of the other opportunities we had this week to serve our brothers and sisters in Christ involve construction, cleaning, and a task some of our men and youth are distinctively skilled in: fencing!
The closet construction was much more involved than originally thought, but the hard work paid off with a beautiful and useful item for both students of the SEPE seminary, and other church groups who will come from the United States to serve in the Siguatepeque area.
While some of our group went evangelizing, others put their muscles to work cleaning some of the area adjacent to the Camino de Cristo building in Ocho de Mayo. Repairing the small length of fence in front of the building was also on the docket, and our team quickly found that the soil in Southwest Kansas can be much more appreciated compared to the solid rock they dug into this week!
What a joy it was to serve others using physical strength given by God and skilled labor learned over time! It was a small example of what the Lord commands in His Word about not only speaking lovingly towards each other, but showing it as well.
But whoever has the world’s goods, and sees his brother in need and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God abide in him? Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and truth. — 1 John 3:17–18

No Avergonzado del Evangelio
Not Ashamed of the Gospel
Not Ashamed of the Gospel
From Monday through Thursday this week, about a third of our team has joined Pastor Noé Argueta of the Camino de Cristo church plant in door-to-door evangelism throughout three different squatting villages just east of where we are staying in the MEDA campus in Siguatepeque. Our home base for this exciting ministry has been Ocho de Mayo, where the church plant sits, but we also visited the communities of Rincon de Alonso and Los Pinos. We start each morning by visiting the community school in Ocho de Mayo so that we can remind them to return that afternoon for Escuela Bíblica (VBS). The kids are all too happy to see us when we visit!
The goal this week has been for every member of our team to proclaim the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ at least once in these squatting villages. We were delighted that so many doors were opened for us; what a kind blessing from God!
We were also surprised at how many people we witnessed to already have some knowledge of the gospel. Many of them also claimed to be Christians, and yet when asked why they should go to Heaven, most brought up their good works, while others admitted they were not faithful in walking with the Lord. It was an exciting opportunity to emphasize the theme of our VBS this week, the New Creation Christian: we are not saved by our good works. Instead, we are saved by grace alone through faith alone in Christ Jesus alone for good works.
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not of works, so that no one may boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them. — Ephesians 2:8–10
We are so thankful for the opportunity to be heralds of the good news of Christ's righteous life, sacrificial death, and resurrection from the grave for the forgiveness of our sin and full expectation of eternal life! It was incredibly encouraging to see our teens be so bold as to witness to strangers. Would you please pray that God would give us the same boldness to proclaim the gospel to others when we return to Kansas? It would be a shame to relegate evangelism to an international missions trip, or to a one-week ministry. May the Lord cause us to be unashamed of the gospel wherever we are!
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “But the righteous will live by faith.” — Romans 1:16–17

Deja que los Niños Vengan
Let the Children Come
Let the Children Come
One of the many exciting ministry opportunities we have this week is to run a Vacation Bible School in Ocho de Mayo. In Spanish, VBS is called Escuela Bíblica de Vacaciones, or just Escuela Bíblica (Bible School) for short. Ocho de Mayo is one of several small squatting villages immediately to the east of the MEDA campus in Siguatepeque, where we are staying. The poor living conditions are extremely obvious once you enter the community, as are the number of children living throughout it!
Our Escuela Bíblica begins with our team playing with the kids before we circle up for prayer. That prayer is led by Pastor Noé Argueta of Camino de Cristo, which is the church plant we came to minister to and alongside with here in Ocho de Mayo. One of the many stray dogs in the community decided to be front and center during that time of prayer 😅
We then split the kids into two groups based on age, so that each group would have ample time and support for crafts and games.
Our Escuela Bíblica continues with a time of singing songs of praise to God before transitioning to instruction from the Word of God. Our theme for VBS is "New Creation," Nueva Creación, from Ephesians 2:8–10.
At the end of each day of Escuela Bíblica, the kids enjoy snacks and playing with our youth some more. It was such a joy seeing the teens so quickly throw themselves into such fun with the children, despite the language barrier 😁
Please continue to pray for our team as we minister to these sweet little ones, 63 of whom showed up for the first day. More are anticipated the rest of this week! Pray for the salvation of the children who are lost in their sin, and the sanctification of those who have turned to Christ Jesus in faith!!
And working together with Him, we also plead with you not to receive the grace of God in vain— for He says, “At the acceptable time I listened to you, And on the day of salvation I helped you.” Behold, now is “the acceptable time,” behold, now is “the day of salvation”— 2 Corinthians 6:1–2

Adorar al Señor y Servir a los Demás
Worshipping the Lord and Serving Others
Worshipping the Lord and Serving Others
Our first day in Honduras was also the Lord's Day, and what an excellent day it was! We began by attending Iglesia Bautista Betania, where we studied Revelation 4:1–11, "The Glory of the Supreme Ruler," in Sunday School and 2 Timothy 3:1–5, "The Reality of the Difficult Times," during the worship service. Both messages were translated into English and shared via Zoom with our group, which was a great kindness! Both worship services were also filled with God-exalting songs, some of which we knew the English versions, and a couple of which were brand new to us. Some great fellowship followed; what a blessing!
After church, our group was surprised with perhaps the best fried chicken we've ever had, served by the excellent kitchen staff on the MEDA campus. We then got to walk through downtown Siguatepeque, visiting a market, coffee shop, and chocolate shop. Honduras is known for its excellent medium roast coffee, but our trip organizer and guide Kenny shared that chocolate is a hidden gem in this country.
A quick tour of the MEDA campus followed, which includes the classrooms for the seminary housed on its premises, SEPE: Seminario de Prédica Expositiva.
In the evening, some of our team were blessed to attend worship service at Iglesia Bíblica Camino de Cristo in Ocho de Mayo, where we will minister the gospel throughout this week. We then were able to help Pastor Carlos Montoya and his wife Lori watch many children from Betania church while their parents attended a young couple group. This is a wonderfully selfless service by the Montoyas, and they do it twice each month!

Putting on Our
Gospel Boots
Gospel Boots
Our delayed departure eliminated our "fun day" in Honduras, so we elected to put together our own fun time in the great city of Albuquerque! Pizza buffet, an activity park (trampolines, dodge ball, laser tag), ice cream, and pool time made for an enjoyable evening together.
We had some great witnessing opportunities in the ABQ airport today; please pray for those who heard the gospel, that they may trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior!
Also, please pray for strength during long day of travel today!
-> 2-hour flight to Houston
-> 3.5-hour layover
-> 2-hour flight to San Pedro Sula, Honduras
-> 2.5-hour drive to Siguatepeque
-> Early-morning Sunday arrival
We are blessed to get to spend much of our week on the campus of MEDA (Ministerios Evangelicos de las Americas), where the seminary SEPE meets. We will help with some closet construction for the seminary students there, and spend our nights in the dorms.
Please pray for strength and humility, that our eyes would be on Christ first and then others. What a great privilege to be used by the Lord Jesus to proclaim Him!
But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart”—that is, the word of faith which we are preaching, that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, leading to righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, leading to salvation. For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes upon Him will not be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him, for “Whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher? And how will they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who proclaim good news of good things!” However, they did not all heed the good news, for Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our report?” So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.
Romans 10:8–17

The Prayers of the Saints
and the Sovereignty of God
and the Sovereignty of God
Good afternoon, all!
What an incredible blessing it was this morning to gather for prayer with our families and many from our church family. We have also received many messages of prayer and encouragement throughout today. How precious indeed are the prayers of the saints, who are all those who trust in Christ Jesus for salvation!
Eight men from CBC each wrote a devotional for our team to use as we spend time alone with God each morning. Providentially, our first devotional this week was on our need to trust in the Lord, from Proverbs 3:5–7 "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear Yahweh and turn away from evil."
Our good Lord sovereignly decided to help us grow that trust in Him in a manner which was unexpected to us. Our flight out of Amarillo ended up cancelled due to extreme winds, and the best availability for our group of 17 is tomorrow in Albuquerque. We have booked a hotel there for tonight, and Lord willing we'll get to Honduras early Sunday morning. How encouraging it has been to see the bright attitudes of our team through this trial 🙂
Consider it all joy, my brothers, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith brings about perseverance. And let perseverance have its perfect work, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. — James 1:2-4
We praise God for this opportunity to grow and trust Him! Please pray we would continue to do so. What an excellent example Christ Jesus is in this regard, as He trusted the Father's perfect will and willingly went to that cross to die for the sake of saving lost sinners such as you and I!
Do you trust in the Lord?

Commissioned:
Go Proclaim Christ !
Go Proclaim Christ !
During our worship service Sunday night, our elders led Countryside Bible Church in commissioning our team to go proclaim Christ Jesus in Honduras!
It was an encouraging and edifying time, beginning with our mealtime fellowship and Christ-exalting worship in singing.
We were then exhorted to serve our Honduran brethren and one another in love (1 Cor 13:1-8), and to both praise and emulate Christ's humility in His missions trip to Earth (Phil 2:1-8).
Our commission service ended in three large prayer groups led by our elders; what a blessing it was to have God's people praying for us! You can find those prayer requests here😊
Looking forward to our departure this Friday!
